چکیده

Polyamide-6 (PA-6)/graphite nanocomposites were prepared by melt blending, using a variety of graphites, including virgin graphite, expandable graphites and expanded graphite. The resulting nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, cone calorimetry, and tensile mechanical analysis. Nanocomposite formation does occur, as denoted by the nanometre dispersion of graphite layers in the polymer matrix, and the dispersion depends on the graphite treatment. The material properties of the resulting composites are improved relative to the virgin/unfilled polymer; in particular, there is an enhancement of the thermal stability without any significant deterioration of the mechanical properties. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Epoxy-based Flame Retardant Nanocomposite Coatings: Comparison Between Functions of Expandable Graphite and Halloysite Nanotubes

Whis work presents a study on the flammability of epoxy coatings containing two types of nano-scale fillers as potential flame retardants: expandable graphite (EG) and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). Both nanocomposites are prepared by incorporation of the same amount of nanofiller into the epoxy resin for the sake of comparison. Fire retardant nanocomposite coatings are cured through a two-stage ...

Polyamide 6 Nanocomposites with Inorganic Particles Modified with Three Quaternary Ammonium Salts

The purpose of this study was to obtain polyamide 6 nanocomposites with national organically modified clay with three quaternary ammonium salts. The obtained results confirm the intercalation of molecules of salt in the clay layers, and a good interaction with the polymer, showing the formation of intercalated and/or partially exfoliated structures. The nanocomposites showed similar thermal sta...

Preparation and Characterization of EG-Chitosan Nanocomposites via Direct Exfoliation: A Green Methodology

In this study, free-standing expanded graphite chitosan (EG-chitosan) nanocomposite films have been prepared using a novel green and simple preparation method, starting from a commercial expandable graphite (GIC). The in situ exfoliation of GIC by a solvent-free sonication method was monitored as a function of the process parameters using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscop...

Flame-Retardant Polyamide 6/Carbon Nanotube Nanofibers: Processing and Characterization

Polyamide 6 (PA6) was melt-blended with an intumescent flame retardant (FR), multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), and nanoclay particles to produce multi-component FR-PA6 nanocomposites. FR-PA6 nanofibers were processed from varied nanocomposite formulations via electrospinning. Electrospinnability, morphology, along with combustion and thermal properties of the nanofibers were investigated. Bo...

Preparation of polyamide 6/silica nanocomposites from silica surface initiated ring-opening anionic polymerization

Polyamide 6/silica nanocomposites were synthesized by in situ ring-opening anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam in the presence of sodium caprolactamate as a catalyst and caprolactam-functionalized silica as an initiator. The initiator precursor, isocyanate-functionalized silica, was prepared by directly reacting commercial silica with excess toluene 2,4-diisocyanate. This polymerization was...
